Belves is a lovely and lively medieval town, with a preserved 15th century covered market hall. Listed as 'one of the most beautiful villages in France', the town centre has some troglodyte dwellings that date from around the 13th century and a 14th century castle. The 'town of seven bell towers' is a wonderful place to enjoy a pleasant afternoon wandering the streets and alleys. Chateau de Biron (0033 553 631 339) stands on a hilltop and can be seen from dozens of vantage points in the area. Try and see the castle when it catches the early morning sun if possible. Biron village itself is also very picturesque. There is a small café, a few houses, and a short way down the hill leads you to the lovely village church. If you have little ones, Parc en Ciel (0033 553 718 458) is a great day out for the whole family. There’s a tree adventure park, a large natural pool and mini-golf. The whole site has been attractively planted with a pleasant mix of shrubs and flowers.
A helpful landmark to locate the campsite is the water tower on the D53 Route de Belvés. From N21: at Bergerac take the D660 to Lalinde. At Port de Couze turn right towards Beaumont/Monpazier. When you arrive at Monpazier, turn right onto the D53 and the site is 4km on the right hand side. From A20: take the D911 to Cahors and then the D811 to Villefranche, followed by the D660 to Monpazier. Turn right and the site is 4km on the right hand side.
