Have you actually ever been in Friesland (Netherlands)? Or do you think: it's so far away, the land is so flat and the wind blows so hard, there are only kilometers flat pastures with hundreds of locks and with even more cows? Maybe you are a little right. Friesland is far away but what is far? Via the Afsluitdijk you can drive from Leeuwarden to Amsterdam within two hours. The distance is thus not so far and the rest also. Indeed, there is much pasture. Fortunately, because where else could graze the world famous white-and-black cows and bulls? Do you know that they are exported to all parts of the globe? How otherwise would run the 99 dairy plants and the thousands of milk cans could be filled for abroad? And what the West of the country could do if the milk-tank cars would not drive daily on the Afsluitdijk?
We have a romantic fisherman's cottage to rent on the Wadden Sea which is now a Unesco World Heritage site. It is in the Lauwerland in Friesland, where the village of Wierum is located on the zeedijk. In the middle of the village is our romantic, authentic fisherman's House. The cottage is built around 1700 and completely renovated in 1996. Friesland, a beautiful province with its own language and plenty of space with waters, plains and forests. Culture comes to you with 65 museums, many churches, mills and mounds. Between Lauwersmeer and Holwerd and Dokkum lies the small pleasant village of Wierum in the embrace of the sea wall. Wierum is also a starting point for mudflat hiking to Engelmansplaat. And not to forget, an old hobby: Kiting, delicious on the dike.
Uber den Wolken, wird die Freiheit Wohl grenzenlossein..... (R. Mey) Wie Schon, das wir aug im Hollandischen Friesland bei euch diese Freiheid spuren Konnten.
