Lower Largo (the birthplace of Robinson Crusoe), the beach and access to the Fife Coastal Path linking the East Neuk's many popular seaside villages is only a few minutes walk from the property, with access to numerous other local walking routes including Largo Law within easy reach. Fresh fish can be purchased locally throughout the year (Live lobster / crab can also be purchased at reasonable rates at most times. Please enquire.) Popular local activities include fishing and sailing in Lower Largo. A modern indoor swimming facility complete with a wavepool and slides is located nearby in Leven town centre along the esplanade. Windsurfing, paddle boats, and sailing are available during the summer months in Elie, 4 miles. There is a well-appointed RSPB nature centre overlooking Loch Leven at Vane Farm. The centre has an observation room, a nature trail, and a hide by the shore overlooking a bird-watching “scrape” (a shallow pool). Thousands of pink-footed geese arrive here in autumn. Large numbers breeding or over-wintering duck, geese, and whooper swans are on the loch, while the surrounding wet fields have breeding snipe, redshank, and lapwing. Dundee and Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh, are easily reached being around 40 minutes distant by car. The architectural features, amenities and historic sites of Edinburgh are beautiful; the annual Military Tattoo and Edinburgh Castle.
