Bensafrim is the largest village in the municipality of Lagos (78.117 km2), located in the extreme northeast and irrigated by the river Bensafrim. The settlement of the territory that comprises this locality, in ancient times, a fact proven by the archaeological remains found there, as is the case of menhirs, well-developed and easy recognition and a necropolis from the iron age. Here the Roman presence was confirmed, because in this necropolis were found burning belonging to this people, where retired pottery shards, nails, guns and some bronze pieces from the first century a.d.. The Muslim presence, she also identified here, stands out the wells and daughters-in-law and, of greater importance, the silos excavated in the rock. By the 16th century, the economy of Bensafrim was based on the typical productions of the region, as is the case of fig, almond, honey, wax, cattle and coal. (taken from the site of C.M. Lakes) The gastronomy of the Algarve is very varied but don't leave without tasting a good gazpacho (cold soup of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and other vegetables) or a grilled fish with a nice salad. Lagos is known for beautiful beaches which resemble tropical paradises. Here are one of the most beautiful beaches in the world: d. Ana beach.
