All right, so we were lucky with the weather while in Achill and the kids were on one blue flag beach or another six out of seven days. But we were also lucky with this accommodation which - at a stretch - is a walk away from Dugort beach and The Strand Hotel with its resident Italian cook and his authentic pizzas. But you really need a car to explore all the nooks and crannies of the island before returning home to curl up under Sliabh Mór and binge on one of the boxsets of DVDs the owner has left for the use of guests, or read one of the books he has kindly left available on the shelf. Or you could go outside under the sky and stars for a smoke, and from the picnic table watch the Moon rise slowly from the dark bulk of Minaun in the other direction. What really makes this a home from home, though, are the local tips left by the owner: we tried all the eating places he recommended and they were all superb. As is this cottage.
