National Park, biosphere reserve, site of Community importance and special protection area for birds are the protected status are there today in Monfragüe. A set of mountains, meadows and riverbanks, which houses one of the best-preserved Mediterranean forest in the South of Europe. Reference point for ornithologists, birdwatchers and photographers from all over the world, Monfragüe nature is one of the most important territories for the ecology of the birds of the continent, being possibly the best place in Europe for the observation of birds of prey during the day. Imperial Eagle, Golden Eagle, Bonelli Bonelli, Black Vulture, Griffon Vulture, common Egyptian vulture, owl and black stork coexist in this natural paradise with a long catalog of living beings, forming a striking plant and animal community. 210 species of birds inhabit this territory, of which 141 are nesting.
